Why I No Longer Compare Myself To Other Women

If I am completely honest, there was a time when I compared myself to other women.

I think many of us do.

Sometimes it was about appearance.

Sometimes it was about careers.

Sometimes it was about who seemed more successful, more confident or more accomplished.

And every single time, I ended up feeling worse.

The funny thing about comparison is that it never really ends.

There will always be someone younger.

Someone prettier.

Someone richer.

Someone with a bigger house, a better job or more followers on social media.

If you keep comparing yourself to others, you will never be satisfied.

At some point in my life, I realised something important.

I am not supposed to live someone else's life.

I am supposed to live mine.

The older I get, the less interested I am in competing with other women.

I would much rather support them.

I would much rather focus on my own goals, my own growth and my own happiness.

One thing I value about myself today is that I am a fighter.

When life gets difficult, I keep going.

That wasn't always the case.

When I was younger, I often thought things would somehow work themselves out.

Today, I know that if I want something, I have to work for it.

That is something I am proud of.

I am proud that I keep starting again.

I am proud that I don't give up easily.

And I am proud that I am still learning and growing at 45.

If there is one thing I would say to any woman who constantly compares herself to others, it is this:

Stop.

You are looking at someone else's life while forgetting to appreciate your own.

You are unique.

There is only one you.

No other woman has your story, your experiences or your journey.

The world would be a very boring place if we were all the same.

So instead of comparing yourself to other women, celebrate who you are.

Focus on becoming the best version of yourself.

Because that is a race you can actually win.

Love,

Shavida
