Why I Am Looking Forward to Morocco

The dog who taught me that trust takes time.

There are certain places in the world that feel special long before you arrive.

For me, Morocco is one of those places.

Later this year, I will be spending two months there, and I find myself thinking about it more and more as the weeks go by.

People often ask me why I enjoy Morocco so much.

The answer is not just one thing.

It is the atmosphere.

The people.

The culture.

The food.

And most importantly, the feeling of being welcomed.

Although I am half Dutch and half Hindustani, Morocco has become an important part of my life through my husband and his family. They may not be my family by blood, but they truly feel like family to me.

Over the years, I have made wonderful memories there. Every visit teaches me something new and gives me a different perspective on life.

But there is another reason why I look forward to going back.

A few years ago, I met a dog there that completely stole my heart.

The first time I saw him, he was not friendly at all. He barked, growled and seemed afraid of everyone. To be honest, I was a little afraid of him too. He did not trust people and certainly did not want anyone getting close to him.

But over time, something changed.

Little by little, he started trusting us.

The dog that once wanted to keep everyone away slowly became affectionate, playful and loving. Before I knew it, I was able to pet him, cuddle him and spend time with him. Seeing that transformation was something very special.

Today, I help take care of him even when I am not in Morocco.

Every month, I send money to help with his care and food. It is something I do with love because I know he is being looked after by people who do not have much themselves.

He may just be a dog to some people, but to me he is part of my Morocco story.

I also help care for several cats while I am there. Feeding them and making sure they are okay has become part of my daily routine whenever I visit.

Some of my favourite moments in Morocco are not the big adventures or tourist attractions.

They are the simple moments.

Drinking tea with family.

Watching the sunset.

Spending time with the animals.

Enjoying life at a slower pace.

That is why I am so excited about spending two months there later this year.

I know there will be new memories, new experiences and many stories that I will eventually share here on Miss La Diva.

And honestly, I cannot wait.

Love,

Shavida
