The Day I Realised Animals Understand More Than We Think
Some people love animals.
For me, animals have always been much more than that.
They have been friends, comfort, family and sometimes even a source of strength during difficult moments in my life.
I think my love for animals started when I was very young.
Growing up, I had a cat called Pinkeltje.
She was there for almost my entire childhood.
In a way, we grew up together.
I was born, she was there, and she stayed with me until I was eighteen years old.
Losing her was incredibly difficult, but she taught me something important at a young age.
Animals love you for who you are.
They don't care what you look like.
They don't care how much money you have.
And they certainly don't care what other people think about you.
As a child, I was bullied at times.
That is one of the reasons I think I developed such a strong bond with animals.
Animals never judged me.
They never made me feel less than anyone else.
They simply accepted me.
Over the years, I have shared my life with many animals, but a few have left a lasting impression.
One of them was Billy, my beautiful red Maine Coon cat.
Billy was spoiled, and honestly, I don't regret it for a second.
He was part of my family.
When I moved to Germany, Billy remained incredibly special to me.
Sadly, he was hit by a car while I was in the Netherlands.
Even now, years later, I still think about him.
Another cat I will never forget is Frodo.
He passed away much too young.
Sometimes animals come into your life for only a short time, but they leave memories that stay forever.
And then there is Rocco.
Even today, I still miss him.
People sometimes underestimate how deep a connection with an animal can be.
But anyone who has truly loved a pet knows exactly what I mean.
Animals have comforted me when I was sad.
They have made me laugh when I needed it most.
And they have given me unconditional love without asking for anything in return.
If there is one thing I think humans can learn from animals, it is kindness.
Animals don't spend their days judging others.
They don't care about status, appearance or success.
They simply live in the moment.
Maybe that is why being around animals feels so peaceful.
They remind us of what really matters.
Love.
Trust.
Loyalty.
And being accepted exactly as we are.
That is why I believe animals understand far more than we sometimes realise.
And that is why they will always have a special place in my heart.
Love,
Shavida
