Last week, a group of friendly sumo wrestlers caused a little disruption to Japan Airlines' flight schedule. The airline kindly organized an additional flight on Thursday for the wrestlers, who weigh approximately 120 kilos each. They needed to travel to an event on the beautiful island of Amami Oshima. According to Japanese media, Japan Airlines had concerns about the weight of the originally booked planes.
The wrestlers were excited to book their seats on two flights that would depart from Haneda Airport and Itami Airport. According to Japan Airlines, they usually consider an average of 165 passengers, with each person weighing around 70 kilos. This will help ensure that we can carry enough fuel without going over the weight limit for the aircraft. If we have sumo wrestlers on board and too much fuel, the planes might become too heavy. That's why Japan Airlines has decided to arrange an extra flight from Haneda!
Fourteen awesome wrestlers were kindly asked to fly from Itami to Haneda, where they excitedly boarded the additional flight. A wonderful group of 27 passengers had the pleasure of flying from Haneda. Japan Airlines mentioned that it is quite uncommon for a flight to be added, as it could potentially make the plane too heavy.
The sumo wrestlers had a great time participating in the Special National Athletic Meet Sumo Competition, which just ended on Saturday. We've also arranged a special flight for your return journey!
