Man transforms dead uncle's skeleton into guitar
A musician from the American state of Florida plays an instrument that is as special as it is sinister: his guitar is made from the skeleton of his deceased uncle. In this way, he wants to honor his uncle, who was the first to introduce him to heavy metal.
The musician who calls himself "Prince Midnight" claims that his guitar was made from the bone scraps of his uncle Filip. "It's pretty metal to play the guitar made out of bones," he said on the Canadian radio show "As It Happens".
Prince revealed his unique guitar - called "Skelecaster" - on his Instagram page. The instrument came after a lot of bureaucratic wrangling, family disputes, and experimental craftsmanship, according to the musician.
His uncle Filip died in a car accident in Greece in the mid-1990s, at the age of barely 28. His body was donated to science at his wish. His skeleton was used as a research object for student doctors for decades. But one day the school saw no more bones in the skeleton. Since Filip's parents had passed away, Midnight's mother was now in charge of the skeleton.
In the end, the musician took care of the metalhead's skeleton. He decided to have the skeleton delivered to his home and make it into a guitar - "The best way to honor him," said Midnight. "He would have loved that idea."
His mother was less fond of the idea. "It's sacrilege," she said. "He must lie down and rest". "Do you think Uncle Fil would have preferred a guitar after his death or a pile of bones?" Midnight tossed his mother.
The musician mounted a metal rod on the spine and installed the bridge and neck of an old Fender Telecaster guitar on the rod. He put red and blue strings on the guitar, a reference to how veins are depicted in medical textbooks.
