Two Irish heterosexual men married to avoid tax

Two Irish heterosexual men were married in Dublin on Friday to prevent them from having to pay 50,000 euros in taxes. The elder of the two, 83-year-old Matt Murphy, wanted to leave his home to 58-year-old Michael O'Sullivan, but he discovered that he would have to pay 50,000 euros in taxes. To prevent this, the two are married.

"I've known Matt for thirty years. After my second relationship went out, we became friends, "says O'Sullivan in the Irish newspaper Irish Mirror. After he had become homeless and Murphy had problems with his eyes, O'Sullivan stayed with the older Murphy for a while to look after him. Murphy, however, was unable to hire O'Sullivan, so he proposed to leave his home to O'Sullivan. That would mean, however, that 50,000 euros tax would have to be paid.

Jokingly, one of the two said that they had to get married and on Friday they officially got married. "He's always so concerned about me, he's my best friend," Murphy said about his new husband. Since a referendum in May 2015, gay marriage in Ireland is legal.
