They got to know each other when they were studying and thanks to a photo they take every 5 years in exactly the same place, they maintained their friendship. 35 years after the original snapshot it was time for photo number 8 for John Wardlaw, John Dickson, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney and John Molony. And before they moved back to the place where the original statue was made: Copco Lake in the state of California. There were the five Americans from Santa Barbara in 1982 on vacation when they were 19. The grandfather of one of them had built a holiday home. Since then they visited the lake every five years, they stayed in the same hut each time, and each time they sat on the same gate in the same order. Even though two of them no longer live nearby.
The jar that Molony keeps up on the first image can also be seen every time. Originally there was a cockroach, but every year it was a different memento. For example, this year it was a photo of the presenter Matt Lauer of the Today Show. The five friends were guests when they took their last photo, in 2012. Although the years changed them, they still enjoy fishing and recording movies together. "When I see the photos, I sometimes think about all the relationships we already had," Dickson told CNN. "If you look closely, you will see the wedding rings come and go. But our friendship was a constant. That remained. Thanks to the photo we take every five years. "
Rumer, Burney and Dickson were the three who stepped into the marriage boat. Wardlaw became a photographer and filmmaker and now lives in Oregon. Molony also became a photographer, but nowadays he lives in New Orleans. Only Dickson still lives in Santa Barbara, where he runs an tourism website. The five plan to continue with it for the rest of their lives. "Until only one of us remains. And even after that we might find someone who wants to photograph the empty couch for us. "
