Sleeping is in. You only have to look in the app store to be able to conclude that. Nevertheless, according to neuroscientist and sleep guru Els van der Helm (33), the importance of sleep is still underestimated. She therefore launched the digital sleep coach Shleep. "Sleep deprivation can make you often grumpy during the day, do not have a puff in the evening for activities and you choose for unhealthy food instead of cooking for yourself. That can be changed by turning the buttons of your sleeping behavior. You have more energy, you live healthier; it is a domino effect, "says Van der Helm in het Parool A Dutch newspaper.
She is a professional scientist and had to get used to her role as a sleep guru. "As a scientist, I looked down on those popular-scientific types. The information that she brought was so simplified. At the same time, I noticed that people stopped snoozing through my workshops or could sleep more easily. And that is exactly the impact that I was looking for. " Her app has always originated from a scientific vision. "You are more motivated to change your behavior if you know why something works. So a session in the app always consists from two videos: one with information and one with concrete tips. Take the subject snooze. If you know what happens in your brain when you snooze, you will be more willing to leave it after that. Because really, snoozing is a torture for your brain. "
