Probably oldest penis in the world - reportedly about 100 million years old, has recently been discovered in Brazil with a fossil of a mussel crayfish. This shellfish was related to crabs, shrimps and water fleas. "To my knowledge, this is the oldest penis. I do not know any older", says Professor David Siveter from the University of Leicester. He presented his discovery during the British Association Festival of Science.
Ironically, the discovery was made with a fossil of a very small sea creature about one millimeter in size, instead of a large dinosaur that lived in the same time. The existing fossils of dinosaurs are of bones and not of soft tissue. Nonetheless, according to experts, it is not surprising that the penis was found in the mussel lobster, given the reputation of the former shellfish. In the animal kingdom, the 'ostracoda' would have had the greatest 'sperm-to-body' ratio. According to Siveter, the fossil produced another surprise: "It did not have one but two penises".
