Forget about sushi and avocado: these are the food trends for 2018
You will have had enough avocado in the meantime. You also know most Japanese restaurants now. Time for new food trends. The American supermarket chain Wholefoods asked its buyers and experts for advice on next year's trends. This is what we are going to eat in 2018:
Flowers
Not for decoration but because of their taste. Elderflower is a favorite, but hibiscus, lavender and roses are also on the menu.
Powder
Protein powders, matcha and turmeric, it was hip for a while, but next year powders will appear even more massively in our smoothies and soups.
Mushrooms
Wholefoods speaks of functional mushrooms, not a mushroom for flavor, but mushrooms as a food supplement in coffee or tea.
Middle East
The Thai and the Japanese are starting to get old-fashioned. Our favorite kitchen is shifting to the Middle East. We are going to enjoy Persian, Syrian and Lebanese flavors.
Transparency
We want to know what we put into our mouths and how it was made. Manufacturers will therefore increasingly tell the fair story behind the product.
Potato chips
And not with pepper or bolognese taste, but healthier varieties such as puffed rice, cassava chips and seaweed chips.
Tacos
There is little innovation about the classic Mexican tacos, but it is different that next year we also take them as breakfast or dessert or fill them with sushi.
Carrots
From the roots to the leaves, next year we eat everything from vegetables and fruit. We are done with the food waste.
Bubbles
Champagne, prosecco and other bubbly wines remain popular. We also enjoy alternative non-alcoholic bubble drinks.
