Elderly couple in America arrested for 'Christmas gift' 27 kilos of weed

A couple in her eighties were arrested in the US state of Nebraska on Tuesday with 27 kilos of weed in her pocket. According to the couple, it was meant as a Christmas present for family and friends. The local police announced this to the American media on Friday. 

Patrick Jiron of 83 and his 80-year-old wife Barbara were arrested because they forgot to turn on the direction of the car when they declined. After the car was stopped by the police, the vehicle was searched because of the "strong marijuana smell".

There the police found 27 kilos of weed and a number of boxes of concentrated THC with a street value of 300,000 dollars (252,889 euros). The couple stated they were on a road trip from California, where they live, to Vermont, where their family lives. The weed was meant as a Christmas present for family and friends. In California, the use of weed has been legalized since this year, but not in Vermont. 

The two have been arrested for possession of marijuana without a "drug tax stamp," police said. The stamp on the box containing the weed and means that the tax for the drugs has been paid. 28 grams per ten dollar tax must be paid. That would be 9,600 dollars (8,092 euros).
