British mother accuses prince in Sleeping Beauty of sexual abuse

Is the prince in Sleeping Beauty guilty of sexual abuse? A British mother wants the fairy tale no longer read at the school of her son. Doornroosje, according to her, does not give permission for the kiss. The prince in the fairy tale gives Sleeping Beauty a kiss with which she wakes up from her sleep. Only a kiss from her true great love can lift the curse. So a beautiful story about true love, right? Mother Sarah Hall (40) from Northumberland Park does not think so. She demands that the school of her son delete the book from the reading list. Is this a bizarre turn in the # MeToo discussion?

Educational Marina van der Wal does not consider this good development. "The great thing about the # MeToo discussion is that we can give our children handles how they can be resilient. "

Only, according to Van der Wal, it is sometimes wrong when a lot of personal and painful frustration from adults seep through that discussion. "For children we make it very opaque, this is a good example. Doornoosje is ultimately about true love, trying to make a big effort for your love, to save your love: everything that has to do with love and devotion. This is now being infected with the # MeToo discussion. That is not good."

A kiss on the mouth is not sexual for children. "In this case, adult sexuality is projected onto children, but a kiss is not the beginning of sex for children."Forbidding Sleeping Beauty does not make any sense as far as Van der Wal is concerned."The #metoodiscussion informs children that their body is theirs and that it is allowed to say no. That's really great, let's not tarnish it and leave adult problems, which are really bad, in the adult discussion. "

Probably Sarah Hall can not agree with Van der Wal's words.According to her, the story of Sleeping Beauty teaches children that it is acceptable to kiss women while they sleep. "Is this of this time and is it appropriate?" She asks. Through the # MeToo-discussion she started to think about the message that children get, which she herself thought the behavior of the prince in Sleeping Beauty is unacceptable.

Hall posted her story on Twitter and immediately got loads of criticism about her. "This is really crazy for words. I have never looked at Sleeping Beauty and thought that the story gave the wrong message about sexual behavior ", someone sends for example.
