Bad breath can be caused by genetic defect

Bad breath can be caused by, among other things, a genetic defect. This has been determined by Radboudumc and Radboud University. In people with a fault in the SELENBP1 gene, the protein lacking the sulfur compound methane thiol is missing. That dust causes that unpleasant, strong, coal-like air. The genetic 'error' probably occurs in one in 90,000 people, the researchers calculated. Unfortunately, there is no real solution. "For the time being, they can actually only reduce a stinking breath with dietary measures."
