A 26-year-old woman from Tennessee, USA, has been given a special daughter. She gave birth to a baby that was begets thanks to the successful freezing of an embryo. It is known as the longest frozen embryo that has resulted in a healthy child. The embryo would have been frozen 24 years ago. The mother is 26-year-old Tina Gibson. If after the fecundation the girl had arrived in the world after 9 months, she would have been almost as old as her mother. The egg and sperm were collected 24 years ago and kept all that time. Tina herself gave birth to her girl, but from a biological point of view, Emma has other, anonymous parents.
Tina and her husband Benjamin can not have children together because of the cystic fibrosis of Benjamin. Yet they would like to have a child together and they chose this special way. On 14 October 1992 the embryo was frozen and on November 25, 2017, Emma was born healthy. "I think she looks pretty perfect for someone who had been frozen all these years," says father Benjamin. The special thing is that more embryos have been made from the same egg and seed cell. It is therefore possible that Emma gets a brother or sister. Whether the parents likes that? Tina: "Now that I have just given birth I think; never again. But I am sure that in a year I would like more children. Who knows, maybe we will try again ".
