A world without coffee

A world without coffee, it is unimaginable for most of us. Yet it could just be the new reality, reports aid organization Solidaridad. The demand for coffee grows by 1.9 percent annually, while production is left behind. Cause? Climate change. Due to floods and higher temperatures, the yields of the coffee-producing countries decrease. The soil is less fertile. Farmers are therefore forced to leave their land and cut down forests for new agricultural land. The deforestation that is currently taking place for the production of coffee generates 76 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, which of course contributes to climate change. This is how our so familiar cup of coffee threatens to disappear. Not a fine thought for the Dutchman, who with an average of 3.7 cups of coffee per day is among the top three largest coffee consumers in the world. In order to draw attention to this problem, Solidaridad has started a playful campaign. For example, the 'No Coffee Shop' was opened in Amsterdam. You can get everything, except coffee. There is, however, an aid kit that prepares you for a coffeeless world with stickers in it to keep your eyes open or sweets with coffee flavor that you can reminisce about that nice time in which you drank a cup of coffee.
