Dog who saved the lives of hundreds of penguins deceased

In Australia a special dog is deceased. The 15-year-old Maremma dog Oddball played an important role in the protection of a penguin colony on Middle Island, a small island to the Australian south coast. On the island each year incubates a colony of little penguins. Several years ago the animals were threatened by a colony of foxes that got to the island at low water. An Australian chicken farmer brought salvation for the penguins. He had good experiences with Maremma dogs to protect his chickens from foxes and decided to bring a dog to the island. That dog was Oddball. The brave dog protected the penguins and made sure that they could expand their eggs quietly. The pingüinkolonie could therefore expand considerably in recent years. The story of the special Maremma which befriended the little penguins spoke to the imagination of the Australian director Stuart McDonald who made the film from Oddball.
