Colombia's Santa Fe Zoo in Medellin gives visitors the opportunity to feed the animals with popsicles. It is not only fun for kids but it also cools the animals.
That is the idea behind the animal care staff. In the Colombian zoo every weekend for five hours long frozen fruit lollipops given out for different types of animals. Visitors can also assist in the manufacture of ice lollies. "We used fruit out the diets of the animals. Mango, papaya, banana, add a little water and freeze it before handing it to the animals, "said one zookeeper. Through branches ice treats can be offered to the animals. So they can get to it quickly. Besides Popsicle,
the zoo has found another way to keep the animals cool and involve visitors there. Additional pools and water systems cool the animals. Visitors can also help with spraying water on the zoo animals. It is very hot lately in the Colombian city. Temperatures have not been below 30 degrees since February and the humidity is above 80 percent.
