New Zealand opens hospital for penguins
A hospital for Penguins opened this week in Otago, New Zealand. Thursday the first crested penguin arrived for treatment. The hospital is required by attacks of barracudas on the penguins. Over the past years the predators come closer to shore to search for food. Therefore, the two species in the same territory and creates fights. For the opening of the hospital were wounded penguins brought to the hospital on the North Island of New Zealand. The new shelter is place on the South Island. "We have especially suffered from infections that come through wounds," said Lisa Argilla, the doctor at the hospital, to Newshub. "Through this hospital, we can begin within 24 hours of antibiotics, increasing the chances of survival of the birds."
