McDonalds in Vatican City gives free meals to the homeless

The controversial McDonald's, which earlier this year despite the protests of the local population and high clergy was opened in Vatican City, has promised to give away thousands of free meals to the homeless. The Borgo Pio McDonald's, also known as McVatican, intends to cooperate with Medicina Soli Dale, one at the Vatican affiliated charity that provides medical care to homeless people and handing out food to them.

Lucia Ercoli, the head of Medicina Soli Dale, said they were "very satisfied" with the agreement with McDonald's "that their proposal" would have accepted immediately, "according to Crux.com.

"Providing these meals is guaranteed an appropriate provision of protein and vitamins for the many men and women who live on the street," said Lucia Ercoli, director of the charity. "I am very pleased with this agreement with McDonald's." Volunteers will begin next Monday to distributing the food.

They take over nearly 1,000 meals at the restaurant to give them to the homeless. "We have been working for a while with the a chaplain of the Pope to provide these people with medical care," said the Polish Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, which provides meals and services on behalf of the Pope.
The initiative comes just at a time, when large parts of Europe have unexpectedly cold winter weather.
