"Many animal experiments in future no longer needed '

Testing may be replaced for many types of research between now and 2025 by other research methods.
For research into new medicines animal testing will remain longer needed. says that the National Committee Opinion animal testing policy (NCAD) in a report that was presented Thursday to Secretary Martijn van Dam (Economic Affairs).
Animals are now currently used to investigate the safety of, inter alia, chemicals, food ingredients and pesticides. These tests can be phased out before 2025, says Herman Koëter, chairman of the NCAD. New techniques are, for example, the use of human artificial skin by allergy tests, or a computer model of the heart that is examined the effects of medication. Naturally the change to new methods will not occur and the government will therefore have to work actively, say the researchers.
Van Dam wants organizations such as the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) get started. The number of animal experiments in the Netherlands has been falling. In 2015 there were 528.159 animal testing. There were 92.868 (15 percent) less than in 2014. Especially with mice, cattle, pigs, chickens and cats were done less testing.
Netherlands was in 1997, also an international leader of no animal testing for cosmetic products such as makeup, toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant. In 2004, the EU followed.
let's hope it is fast 2025.
