Siberian beach dotted with mysterious snowballs

A beach in the north of Russia is for a week full of snowballs. It seems like the balls in different sizes were created by humans, but they were created naturally by the local residents.
On photos of The Siberian Times shows that there are thousands of balls. Some are as big as basketballs. The whole beach of the Nyda, which lies north of the Arctic Circle, is covered with it. A spokesman for the Arctic research calls this phenomenon very special. He thinks it has to do with a combination of the wind, ice formation and the temperature.
First, the water level would have increased and there was a layer of ice on the beach. Then the water went away very slowly, but the ice remained. The ice particles rolled across the wet sand and were so balls that were increasing.
The citizens of Nyda tell the newspaper that they can not recall ever this kind of snowballs on the beach.
