"Three billion trees on earth '
There are on earth estimated three billion (3,000 billion) trees. That's 420 trees per person.
According to new calculations by Yale University in the United States. Earlier it was thought that there are at most 400 billion trees on earth.
The study of scientist Thomas Crowther could serve as a basis for studies on flora, fauna and climate change. Trees play an important role in the climate, as forests purify the air by introducing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Crowther warns that the new calculation does not necessarily mean that the climate is in better shape. "It's not like we found a lot of new trees. It's not good or bad news. We only describe the state of the forests in the world," said the scientist told the BBC.
Most trees are found in the tropics and subtropics. According to the study decreases the number of trees. Each year cut down some 15 billion trees. For this, only 5 billion planted back.
